Moving Furniture from High Floors and Narrow Stairs: When Do You Need a Crane?
A high floor without an elevator or a narrow staircase does not mean the move is impossible, but they change the method. Knowing that in advance spares you scratches and delay and surprises on moving day.

When is the crane the solution?
- When the wardrobe, bed or sofa does not fit through the door, the stairs or the elevator.
- On high floors without an elevator with heavy or large pieces.
- When there is a balcony or a wide window that allows lifting and lowering from outside.
- When a valuable piece needs protecting from rubbing against the stairs.
With us the hydraulic crane is used to lift and lower furniture from balconies and windows when needed, and the details of the service are on the lifting cranes page.
What to measure before the move
- The width of the door, the width of the stairs and the ceiling height at the turns.
- The dimensions of the elevator inside and the dimensions of its door.
- The dimensions of the largest pieces of furniture: the wardrobe, the bed, the sofa and the fridge.
- The width of the balcony or window if you are thinking of lowering things from outside.
Send these measurements with photos of the place on WhatsApp so we can decide the most suitable method before the date.

Preparing the place for the crane
- Make sure the street or the entrance allows the crane and the truck to park.
- Clear the lifting area of cars and obstacles as far as possible.
- In compounds and office buildings, ask in advance about entry permits and the permitted moving times.
- Empty large pieces of their contents and wrap them before lifting.
Tips for high floors without an elevator
- Dismantling what can be dismantled reduces the volume and weight and makes it easier to pass on a narrow staircase.
- Arrange the boxes by room, and move the heaviest first with enough workers.
- Decide in advance what will be lifted by the crane and what will be carried by hand, so the work is not delayed.
Trained teams know how to turn a large piece on the stairs without damage, but preparing in advance is what saves the most time and effort.
