How to Pack Furniture for Moving, Step by Step
Most scratches and breakages happen because of incomplete packing, not because of the move itself. These are simple steps that protect your furniture, whether you wrap it yourself or leave it to the team.

The tools you need
- Bubble wrap (air bubbles) for glass, mirrors and fragile pieces.
- Stretch film (packing plastic) to hold covers in place and protect wood and upholstery.
- Thick covers or blankets to protect large surfaces.
- Boxes of different sizes, strong tape, and a marker to write the contents.
- Flat cardboard to protect smooth surfaces such as the dining table.
Packing steps
- Empty the pieces first: take the contents out of the wardrobes and drawers, or secure the drawers with light tape.
- Dismantle what can be dismantled: legs, shelves and the doors of large wardrobes, and put the screws in a bag labelled with the name of the piece.
- Cover the corners and edges: the corners are what get scratched most, so put bubble wrap or cardboard on them before the stretch film.
- Wrap the stretch film tightly: it holds the covers and stops doors from opening, but do not wrap it directly on painted or veneered wood for long periods.
- Number and label: write the room name on every box and every large piece, so it is unloaded in the right place.

Protecting delicate pieces
- Mirrors and glass: bubble wrap on both sides, hard cardboard on the edges, and carried upright, not flat.
- Screens: preferably their original box, otherwise bubble wrap and thick cardboard with the edges secured.
- Mattresses: a mattress cover or thick plastic protects them from dust and moisture.
- Dining tables and glass tables: separate the glass from the base, and wrap each one on its own.
- Air conditioners and water heaters: dismantled by a specialist technician and not moved while installed.
Common mistakes
- Filling a single box with heavy things until it collapses; it is better to use small boxes for heavy things.
- Leaving gaps inside the box, so the contents move and break.
- Packing at the last minute in a hurry with no order.
- Forgetting to photograph the condition of important pieces before loading.

FAQ
Should I wrap the furniture myself or leave it to the company?
You can wrap small items yourself to save time, but large wardrobes, mirrors and delicate pieces are best wrapped by a trained team with the right tools.
When should I start packing before the moving date?
Start with the items you do not use daily days before the date, and leave what you use every day until the last night.
Is packing a separate service with you?
Yes, packing is an extra service that can be added to any move, and its price is set with the overall price after inspection.
