Moving Heavy Items: Pianos, Safes, Gym Equipment and Large Fridges

A heavy item is not just a bigger item; it changes the whole plan: the number of workers, the equipment, the route and sometimes the crane. And all of that is much easier when we know about it in advance.

Why are heavy items different?

The weight, its distribution and the shape make carrying a piece on stairs or through narrow doors hard and risky for the team, the floors and the walls. So it is not treated like any piece of furniture; it is planned ahead using measurements and the type of route.

What should you tell us before booking?

  • The type of item (piano, safe, gym equipment, large fridge...), its approximate weight and its dimensions.
  • The floor at both locations, and whether there is an elevator and how big it is.
  • The width of entrances, doors, stairs and corridors.
  • Can the item be dismantled or separated into parts?
  • A photo of the item and the entrance on WhatsApp, which often replaces a first visit.

Pianos

A piano is heavy and delicate at the same time, and many of its faults come from tilting or shaking. We advise you to tell us in advance so we choose the right team and equipment, to cover it well and keep it as upright as possible, and, once it settles in the new place, to leave it for a few days before tuning. Ask a piano specialist about any detail of its tuning.

Safes

Empty the safe and lock it before the move, and carry its contents yourself. A safe is very heavy and may need special carrying tools or a crane depending on the floor, so tell us its weight and location. In the new place decide where it goes before arrival, because moving it after unloading is hard.

Gym equipment and large fridges

For gym equipment such as treadmills, the moving parts are dismantled where possible, and the screws are kept in a bag labeled with the equipment name. Large fridges are emptied and disconnected well before the move, moved upright, and left for a while before switching on after unloading. The crane and high floors

When an item is heavy or too large for the stairs and elevator, a crane may be the safest solution. See moving from high floors and narrow stairs to know when you need one, and we decide the need after the inspection.

Prepare the route and the new place

  • Clear corridors and entrances of any obstacles before the team arrives.
  • Cover marble, parquet and ceramic floors with protective covers.
  • Ask the building management about elevator times and any required permit, and read moving permits and building management.
  • For very heavy items in old buildings, ask an engineer about the floor load before choosing the location.

Frequently asked questions

Do you move pianos?

We can move heavy items once we know their type, weight and location, and we choose the right team and equipment before booking.

Does moving heavy items increase the price?

The price may be affected by the number of workers, equipment, the floor and the crane; we set it once we know the details or after inspection, and agree on it before loading.

What if the item does not fit through the door or elevator?

We measure in advance, and we may dismantle part of it, use the crane or take another route. That is why measurements and photos matter before moving day.
