Moving a Whole Kitchen: Steps and Warnings

The kitchen is the most complicated room in the home to move because it combines units, appliances, dishes and connections.

The type of kitchen decides the method

Fitted kitchen units are usually dismantled, moved and reinstalled, while freestanding appliances (cooker, fridge) are moved whole. You may need plumbing and electrical changes in the new place.

Disconnecting gas and water

Disconnect the gas cylinder or its connection and turn off the water before the team arrives, and use a qualified technician to reconnect in the new place.

Dishes and drawers

Dishes and glassware go in small boxes with paper or bubble wrap between them, drawers are emptied before the move, and knives are wrapped separately.

Marble and surfaces

Marble and granite surfaces are heavy and cannot take stress. Ask us before dismantling so we decide the method.

Measurements

Measure the new place before the move to make sure the units and appliances fit. See also dismantling and assembling bedrooms and kitchens.
