Moving Antiques and Old Wooden Furniture: How Do You Protect Them?

Old pieces are often worth more than their price, and moving them carefully starts with documenting and wrapping.

Document the condition before loading

Photograph the piece from every side and note any old breaks or cracks. We also record the condition of important pieces with photos together with you before loading.

Dismantle only when necessary

Dismantling can weaken the joints of old pieces. Ask us before dismantling anything; some pieces are moved whole after good wrapping.

Wrapping and securing

We wrap wood in layers of stretch film and bubble wrap, protect the corners and glass surfaces, and secure the pieces inside the closed truck so they do not move.

Humidity and dust

Avoid damp places, and if you need temporary storage, read the secure storage guide.

Valuable pieces

Tell us in advance about high-value pieces so we can take them into account in how we load and arrange.

Frequently asked questions

Do you move glass ornaments?

Yes, with suitable wrapping, and see the guide to moving mirrors, glass, chandeliers and ornaments.

Should I move antiques myself?

For heavy or valuable pieces, professional moving in a closed truck is best.
