Moving a Newlyweds’ Trousseau: How to Move Furniture and Appliances Safely

A newlyweds’ trousseau is expensive new pieces gathered over months, and the time before the wedding is tight. Good planning for the move protects the pieces from any scratch and gets the apartment ready on time.

When should you move the trousseau?

Do not leave the move to the last week. It is best to book the date early and, as far as possible, move two weeks or more before the wedding, so you have days to install the appliances, arrange the pieces and deal with any issue. Before the date, make sure the apartment is ready: finishing work done, electricity and water working, floors clean, and the building elevator available.

List the pieces before loading

Write a list of everything that will be moved: bedrooms, dining room, living room, kitchen, appliances, furnishings, curtains, chandeliers and ornaments. Photograph the new pieces from every side, keep the invoices and warranty numbers, then compare the list and photos at delivery. With us, the condition of important pieces is recorded with photos before loading.

New appliances

  • If the appliances are in their original boxes, leave them as they are, since that is the best protection. If not, wrap them in bubble wrap and stretch film.
  • Do not switch on the fridge or washing machine as soon as it arrives; follow the manufacturer’s instructions, since many recommend waiting several hours before switching on.
  • Our team dismantles and installs air conditioners, water heaters, screens and chandeliers, and you will find the details in the moving appliances and air conditioners guide.

Bedrooms and the kitchen

Large pieces are dismantled, wrapped and assembled in the new apartment. If a piece is new and under the workshop’s or showroom’s warranty, ask them whether they prefer to dismantle it themselves, and tell us before the date. See the guide to dismantling and assembling bedrooms and kitchens.

Protecting glossy surfaces and delicate pieces

Glossy and freshly painted surfaces scratch easily. Put a layer of cloth or blanket on them first, then bubble wrap, then stretch film, and do not wrap stretch film directly on new paint. Mirrors, chandeliers and ornaments are wrapped carefully, carried by hand and placed in a safe spot in the truck. For more, read moving fragile items.

Coordinate with the family

Decide who will be at each address and who decides where each piece goes. Draw a simple plan of the furniture layout in the apartment, and put a label with the destination room on every piece and box, so unloading and arranging happen once with no repeats.

A quick checklist before moving day

  • The apartment is clean and ready, and its key is with someone who will be there.
  • The list and photos are ready.
  • Entry permit and service elevator arranged if the building is a compound.
  • Small appliances and ornaments are in their boxes or wrapped.
  • The number of the person who will contact the team at each address.

Frequently asked questions

Do you move the trousseau from more than one address?

Yes, loading can be from more than one address, such as the family home and the showroom, if we agree the addresses and the order before the date. It may affect the price, which we set after the inspection.

Should I move new pieces in their original boxes?

Yes, and it is best for small and large appliances, since the original box was designed to protect the piece.

When should I book before the wedding?

Book as early as possible, especially in wedding seasons, and we agree the date and price with you before loading.

What if a new piece gets scratched?

We record the condition of important pieces with photos before loading, and our guarantee has written terms. Review the terms and tell us right away about any issue at delivery.
